I have been drawing and painting ever since I can remember. All my life, without my knowing, my art has reflected a search for opposed values in terms of light and dark. As a child I used to draw all the super heroes I saw on Sunday newspapers while trying to emphasize opposite values. I used inks, colored pencils, chalks and poster colors. After meeting a local artist who taught me how to work in oils and egg tempera, I unconsciously kept on developing a taste for strong tonal contrasts. This, eventually led me towards studying works by artists like Rembrandt, Caravaggio and Vermeer. Although my themes have been diverse, the chiaroscuro aspect in my work has been fairly consistent. There is always something in a high contrast image that catches my attention. This preoccupation about values is always on my mind. During the last few years I have been trying to merge this quality with elements of some texture without losing much transition from one value to another.
